Virginia - Feb 2012

Just a short trip this time. We had a day to do some sight seeing so we decided on the Natural Bridge of Virginia.

Just a short ride off of i81 down a windy road no attention was paid at the peculiar grey stockade fence just after the sharp left hand turn. The gigantic bill board had our full attention. The grey fence ran down for a few yards on either side of the road.

We parked in the almost desolate parking lot and went inside. Onsite there are a menagerie of attractions; the Natural Bridge, Butterfly Garden, Wax Museum & Factory Tours, and Caverns. We asked "So what's open?" and the nice lady in the empty gift shop's ticket booth says, "Just the Natural Bridge." with a pleasant smile.

"Three tickets please."

We started down the 173 steps on the trail to the Natural Bridge. My first photo is that of blooming purple pansies and sprouting daffodils. It was a comfortably warm high 60's and a great site to see Spring.

A few more steps down is of the plaque that tells the story of the Ancient Arborvitae and the slimy tan stuff in the brook that follows the trail to the bridge.
